Our Practice Model

The Advanced Medical Practice Family Health Organization is a Family Health Organization (often referred to as a FHO). A FHO is a group of doctors who practice in a capitation-based remuneration agreement with the Ministry of Health.

In a capitation-based model, physicians are paid per rostered patient per year. In contrast to fee-for-service medicine, where doctors are paid per-encounter, we are better able to focus on quality of care as we are better incentivized to spend more time with our patients.

One of the benefits of being in a FHO is that participating physicians must provide an after hours clinic for rostered patients. This means our patients have urgent access to an on-call doctor between 5 and 8 pm on Mondays to Thursdays, and between 9 am and 12 pm on Saturdays.
